Tagline

The case will break you. The past already has. Play a troubled investigator in a world where the dead don't stay quiet and neither do your mistakes.

Logline

A supernatural noir RPG of broken detectives and impossible cases, played with a tarot deck instead of dice, in a city where the dead don't stay quiet.

Shorter: A tarot-driven noir RPG about haunted detectives and the cases they can't walk away from.

Elevator pitch (~50 words)

You play a troubled investigator working impossible cases in a city where the ghosts are real and the cults are worse. There are no dice. You draw from a tarot deck, and it remembers. Every detective carries a wound. Close the case, heal the wound, and try to walk away clean.

Description

Haunted is a tabletop roleplaying game of supernatural noir investigation. You and your fellow investigators take on impossible cases in a rain-drenched city where the water never quite rinses out the rot, a place where the dead have opinions, the cults are real, and every case reaches back further than you'd like. You play troubled people: the reckless Bull, the spooky Medium, the dogged Shamus, and others, each carrying a wound at their center that broke the way they see the world.

There are no dice in Haunted. Every uncertain moment is resolved by drawing from a tarot deck: the Major Arcana for a clean success, the numbered cards for a price you'll pay, and the whole table reads the card together to decide what just happened. Beneath the casework runs a second story: each investigator's Redemption Arc, the slow and optional work of facing the person who haunts them. The case will keep moving. The city won't slow down. Sooner or later you'll have to choose which one you're actually trying to save.

The studio

Burzerkerr Studios is a two-person tabletop game studio founded in 2026 by Geneva Burleigh and Jeremy Kerr, partners who spent their earlier careers in film and television before turning to tabletop games. Haunted is the studio's first release, with two more games, Horde and Out of the Valley, in development.

Jeremy designed Haunted and wrote the books; Geneva edited them and runs the business. Art is led by Belgin Kaya, with Melody Durham, Murat Gül, and Oliver Guiney. Jeremy is the interview subject. He's happy to get into design, tarot, and running horror at the table.

On AI

Haunted is human-made. Jeremy designed the game, all of it, and wrote every word of the books; Geneva edited them. Every piece of art is made by a human artist we paid for the work, led by Belgin Kaya. None of the writing, the design, or the art was generated by AI.

FAQ

Why a tarot deck instead of dice?
Because the deck has opinions. When something's uncertain, you draw: a Major Arcana is a clean success, a numbered card means you'll pay for it, and the whole table reads the card together to decide what actually happened. Every draw is a story prompt, not just a number. And no, you don't need to know tarot to play. If you do, use it as inspiration; if you don't, the rules tell you everything you need.
What do I need to play?
The books, a group, a standard 78-card tarot deck, and a stack of index cards for tracking the case. No special dice, no minis, no grid. (You supply the tarot deck for now; a bespoke Haunted deck is a possible stretch goal.)
How many players, and how long?
2-6: one GM and a group of investigators. Sessions run two to four hours, usually landing around two and a half to three. Haunted is built for campaign play: cases unfold across sessions, and each character's personal arc plays out over time, with a one-shot quickstart for a single evening.
Is it rules-heavy?
No. Narrative-first and rules-light. If you've played a Powered-by-the-Apocalypse game the rhythm will feel familiar; if you haven't, you'll have it by your first scene.
This sounds dark. How does it handle heavy material?
It is dark. Grief, trauma, and horror are the point of the game, not set dressing. That's exactly why safety tools are part of the core rules, not bolted on. Every table sets Lines and Veils before play: topics that are off the table entirely, and topics handled at a distance. Anyone can use the X-Card to stop a scene at any moment, no explanation needed.
When can I get it, and how much?
Haunted launches on Gamefound on October 1, 2026, as part of Gamefound's RPG Party 2026. If you miss the window, a BackerKit campaign will follow. PDF and print; pricing to be announced.
Can I get a review copy, or interview the designer?
Yes to both. Jeremy, the game's designer, is the one to talk to for interviews, and he's happy to get into design, tarot, and running horror at the table. See the contact below.

Streaming & actual play

Yes, please do. We love seeing Haunted played and talked about on streams and podcasts. Two small asks: name the game and link hauntedrpg.com where you can, and don't reproduce the books wholesale. Playing from them, showing pages, and quoting for review are all fine; publishing the full text or scans isn't. Monetize freely, and tag us so we can share what you make.
